Southeast Missouri Hospital College of Nursing and Health Professions and Southeast Health coordinated and hosted the 2018 Healthcare Professionals Camp. This year's camp was held at the College; SoutheastHealth clinical sites, including Southeast Hospital; Chateau Girardeau. Thirty high school students who are considering healthcare careers participated in this year's camp. Campers shadowed nurses and other healthcare professionals in patient care areas, laboratory, radiology, surgery, cardiac rehabilitation, physical therapy, respiratory therapy, and occupational therapy. Campers earned CPR certification, learned to use stethoscopes, assessed blood pressures, observed helicopter patient transport, and talked with College of Nursing & Health Sciences faculty and graduates about the College and healthcare careers. In addition, a panel comprised of a pharmacist, physician, advanced practice nurse, and dietitian spoke with the students. Campers also had opportunities to learn about specialty areas such as pediatrics, surgery, intensive care, labor and delivery, emergency services and radiology. The camp concluded with a banquet at Elks Lodge Banquet Hall for campers and their families.

The College of Nursing & Health Sciences offers the annual camp in partnership with SoutheastHEALTH and the SoutheastHEALTH Foundation. Tuition for the camp includes transportation, all meals and two nights lodging in a Southeast Missouri State University residence hall.
